In March we celebrated three years married by spending a weekend in San Francisco! I took Sam to a Whiskies of the World tasting event on a docked yacht near Pier 3. We got to take Gus to Baker Beach and spent that night trying whiskies on three levels in the bay! I was offered the review passes from Hype Experiences, who I mentioned on my Instagram Stories of this event.
I started working with them last year as a reviewer, and am so intrigued by all the events they offer access to. This was the first one I was able to make it to, but the options for tasting menus, unique holiday experiences like the drag queen haunted house that initially exposed me to their company, all of it! It’s right up my alley, so I was hyped (hah) when I got the email about this event. Sam taught me everything I know about whiskey, but now it’s something we both really enjoy, so this seemed perfect for an anniversary weekend away.
Below are photos of some of my favorites that we tried. Of the Bulleit options, my personal favorite was the Barrel Strength, at 125 proof.
Another unique try was the Brenne single malt whiskey. It tasted like you were drinking it by the ocean, it was fresh and smooth and I was really taken with it.
There was also the Ohishi Sakura Blossom, aged in cherry blossom casks, offering a bright and unique flavor. The pictures included are only a fraction of what was available, and of what we tried!
There were three levels to the venue, with whiskey to try throughout, but the real winners for me were the giant banquet tables of cheese and crackers and salami, because I know they weren’t just my lifeline alone. With full dinner being served on the top floor, hunger wasn’t the problem. The crackers just kept a lot of guests together as they made their ways through, and I truly appreciated that salty buttery goodness for keeping me off the proverbial ledge.
The crown jewel of this event might have been the location. Everyone was so excited about what they did and it was great to talk to enthusiastic craftsmen who make something Sam and I both love, but y’all. These views. These. VIEWS!!!
